Montmartre Walk: Sacré-Cœur Steps, Basilica Views, and the Moulin Rouge

Montmartre still sells the climb — white domes, souvenir crêpes, a view that earns the Metro — and then the steps remind you that Sacré-Cœur sits on a butte. In the film I walk from the stairs to the basilica, through souvenir streets, past Pigalle, and on to the Moulin Rouge as the Paralympic torch changes hands.

About thirty-five minutes. Street-level from the Montmartre steps to Boulevard de Clichy — with practicals for stays, cabaret tickets and the climb.

Watch the film

On YouTube — Montmartre's Wonders: Basilica Views, Parisian Streets, and an Olympic Moment — I climb the steps, stand at the basilica, wander toward Anvers, cut through Pigalle, and end at the Moulin Rouge. Watch before you treat the butte as a checkbox photo stop.

How to visit — the practicals

Where: Montmartre, Paris 18th. Landmark: Basilique du Sacré-Cœur. Route: Square Louise-Michel steps → souvenir streets → Anvers → Pigalle → Moulin Rouge on Boulevard de Clichy.

Stairs at Square Louise-Michel leading to Sacré-Cœur, Montmartre

Getting there: Anvers (Line 2) for the tourist stairs; Abbesses (Line 12) for the village; Pigalle / Blanche for the Moulin Rouge end. From CDG/Orly via Gare du Nord, or GetTransfer with bags.

When: Morning for thinner crowds; late afternoon for golden domes. Evenings change the walk down toward Pigalle — treat the adult strip as a corridor you understand.

Moulin Rouge tickets: Moulin Rouge tickets via the film’s affiliate link — book ahead.

The butte and the boulevard are one continuous walk: white stone, souvenir funnel, Pigalle’s blunt tone, and the red windmill. Walk with open eyes — bag zipped, polite camera etiquette at Sacré-Cœur, hotel pin matching the Paris you want.

The Paralympic torch handover outside the Moulin Rouge was a reminder that photographed façades still host live civic moments.

Why it stays with you

Montmartre takes half an hour of your feet and asks whether you came for the white dome alone, or for the whole ridge. Watch the film. Choose your bed with open eyes.
