Ibiza Craft Beer & BBQ: Can Garage, Santa Eulària

Ibiza sells itself as foam parties and sunset DJs — fair enough — but the island’s better trick is hiding a proper smokehouse on the road to Santa Eulària and pouring craft beer that was brewed a few kilometres away, not shipped in for the Instagram set.
Can Garage sits on Carretera Santa Eulària at kilometre 3.3, between Ibiza Town and Santa Eulària des Riu: terrace lights, wooden tables, and a menu that smells of American BBQ rather than mediocre pad Thai for Brits on a budget. In the film below, I sit down with friends, work through Espíritu Pucará’s local range, and eat like someone who has earned the bill. Amnesia gets a glance at the end — because this is still Ibiza — but the story is the food and the beer, not the VIP rope.

Can Garage — where and why
Where: Carretera Santa Eulalia Km 3.3, 07840 Santa Eulària des Riu. Not in the old town warren; you need a car, taxi, or a willing friend with wheels. From Ibiza Airport (IBZ) it is a straightforward drive inland toward Santa Eulària — GetTransfer if you want a pre-booked ride without the airport-rank circus.
What it is: The island’s original smokehouse pitch — ribs, smoked meats, sauces, fries, salad, terrace. It is not trying to be a whitewashed finca with €28 gazpacho. It is trying to be good BBQ with cold beer under string lights, which is rarer on this island than the brochures admit.
When: Evening is the point. Arrive hungry. Share platters. Order more beer than you planned — the flight home is already booked.

The beers — Espíritu Pucará Ibiza
Espíritu Pucará is the local craft house: Carrer del Mar 23 in Santa Eulària itself (a short hop from Plaza del Cañón), brewery and taproom in one. At Can Garage their beers are the pairing, not an afterthought. In the film I work through:
Pilsen — clean opener; the table’s handshake.
IPA — citrus and hop, built for smoked fat.
American Amber Ale — malt sweetness against the glaze.
Scottish Red Ale — deeper colour, slower sip.
Oatmeal Stout — dessert territory before the digestif.
Five pours is a tasting flight with homework. None of them taste like a multinational lager poured into a branded glass and called “Ibiza exclusivity.” That alone is worth the taxi.
The food — smokehouse, not theatre
Appetisers land first; then the main event. Ribs and smoked meats arrive the way BBQ should: generous, sticky, slightly indecent. Fries and salad keep the plate from becoming a protein monologue. The local on the floor in the film is worth listening to — staff who actually live on the island tend to tell you more truth in two minutes than a resort concierge manages in twenty.
I am not reviewing Can Garage as a Michelin prospect. I am saying that if you came to Ibiza for clubs and left without eating something that actually tasted of craft and smoke, you did half a holiday. This terrace fixes that.
Hierbas, Amnesia, and the bill
Hierbas Ibicencas Mari Mayans closes the meal — the island’s herbal digestif, anise and herbs, the civilised full stop before you decide whether the night continues. Then, briefly, Amnesia: still the club that defines a certain Ibiza mythology. I tip the hat; I do not pretend a smokehouse review needs a three-hour dance-floor essay.

Other craft offerings — a short, honest map
Let's be honest: Ibiza will not trouble Brussels or Manchester in a craft-beer census. The island's fame runs to clubs, coast and cuisine, not hop schedules. That said, if you have already found your way to Can Garage for smokehouse ribs and a cold pint on the Santa Eulària road, there is a short, useful list of other places that take beer seriously.
Start on the west at Ibosim (Ibiza Beer Company) in Port des Torrent, Sant Josep — the pioneering island brewhouse, natural and unfiltered, with a terrace and tours when they are running (ibizabeercompany.com). In town, IBZ Craft Beer on Passeig de Vara de Rey 7 brews its own, pours late, and leans into food and music (ibzcraftbeer.com).
Back in Santa Eulària, Espíritu Pucará on Carrer del Mar 23 is the small on-island brewery-restaurant whose beer is best drunk where it is made — you have already met it on the Can Garage taps. Cervecería Quintana on Carrer Sant Vicent is the deep cellar of imported bottles and taps (~100 beers) if you want range rather than a house mash tun: a beer bar, not a brewery. Out at Es Canar, EsBirra mixes craft pours with live music and a kitchen (esbirraibiza.com).
None of it pretends to be a pilgrimage circuit. It is simply what is there — enough to keep a curious Englishman happily occupied between swims, without overselling the scene. Hours and menus change with the season; check before you taxi.
Where to stay — all over Ibiza / mix it up
Ibiza rewards the restless more than the rooted. I stopped pretending one villa or one beach town could do the whole island justice years ago. One trip you want the white walls and harbour buzz of Ibiza Town; the next, Santa Eulària's river-mouth calm; then a west-coast sunset over Sant Antoni or Port des Torrent; then the quieter north around Portinatx when the south feels crowded. Different base, different pace — and you actually see the place. I mix it up myself; I do not base every visit east for Can Garage alone.

Ibiza’s reputation is noise. Can Garage’s reputation, if it has one beyond the regulars, should be smoke, hops, and a terrace that does not care whether you made the guest list at Pacha. Espíritu Pucará proves the Balearics can brew; the ribs prove someone on this island still cooks for appetite rather than for a storyboard.
